Can Aromatherapy Be Successful In Treating Medical Conditions?

April 8th, 2012
By
Expert Author Jeff W Bush

There are many forms of alternative healthcare that may be beneficial to you. Aromatherapy is one form I actually found by accident. I say by accident because it wasn’t called aromatherapy. I started with a simple bottle of Peppermint Oil to clear sinuses on the recommendation of a friend.

Studying aromatherapy further to find out what it is and how it can help alleviate symptoms from eczema, psoriasis to achy joints and stress relief, lead me in several different directions finding different essential oils and fragrances that promised more than I imagined or believed. The use of aromatherapy fragrances and essential oils date way back in ancient history and it’s used to stimulate nerves within the nose to reach the part of the brain that controls certain functions.

The science of aromatherapy uses scented oils derived from varying parts of plants including the flowers, leaves, and even the roots and bark! The underlying purpose of different scents treats different types of conditions within our bodies. The aromatherapy isn’t a replacement of medical treatments, but is used to work with and enhance the treatment of your ailments.

One condition I mentioned was using peppermint oil for sinus relief but also certain allergy sufferers can benefit from aromatherapy. There is a scent advertised called Blue Tansy the scent of choice for allergies. It is also called Moroccan Chamomile. I found conflicting information about it but it is generally considered safe. It doesn’t have the long history true chamomiles have since Moroccan Chamomile is not a true chamomile and it is not recommended as a replacement for German or Roman chamomile in blends because it is aromatically and chemically different. My advice is that you learn as much as possible before trying anything sold in the marketplace.

Fatigue, drowsiness and irritability can be treated by using Eucalyptus and Pine scents helping you think clearly and stay alert throughout the day.

I found a lot of uses for Lemongrass to keep mosquitoes and fleas out of the garden, yard and home. Lemongrass and sage scents are also good for fatigue and headache relief calming the nervous system to relax you minimizing the headache.

Even teenagers can use aromatherapy to get help with acne issues? It is believed that Cedarwood, lemon and sandalwood are effective scents helping the body’s ability to control hormonal balance and oil production within the skin while relieving stress which can cause acne outbreaks.

Minor medical treatments using aromatherapy is an excellent alternative solution. You can use aromatherapy in candle or liquid form whichever method works best for your personal preferences and keeping track of the scents benefiting you the most.

Each aromatherapy oil brings its own unique benefit. For example, the health benefits of lavender oil include its ability to remove nervous tension, relieve pain, disinfect scalp and skin, enhance blood circulation and treat respiratory problems. Lavender smells lovely, it has the Latin name Lavare, which means “to wash”, due to its aroma that gives the feeling of a clean aroma.

Lavender oil is extracted mostly from the flowers of lavender plant, primarily through steam distillation. The flowers of lavender are beautifully fragrant in nature and have been used for making potpourris for many years.

Lavender essential oil has also for a long time been traditionally used in making perfumes. The oil is very useful in aromatherapy and many aromatic preparations are made using lavender oil. Lavender oil blends well with a lot of other oils including cedarwood, pine, clary sage, geranium, and nutmeg. Today, lavender oil is used in various forms including aromatherapy oil, gels.

Essential oils can be purchase from health stores or online.

Making Your Own Essential Oil Blends

March 22nd, 2012
By Sophie Fiona Mason
Do you want to know how to make your own essential oil blends? If your answer is yes, here are some useful tips you can follow to make the perfect concoction. You may use them for yourself or give them as gifts for friends and family.

Making your own essential oil blends

The first thing you should do is prepare the materials you will need for making the oils. Get yourself some small glass bottles, a compact notebook, plenty of cotton balls and droppers. Of course, before buying a selection of oils you will have to know what will work best for you. Do your own research, it will familiarize you with the different kinds of oils and which combinations may suit you.

Essential oils have three major categories: top notes, middle notes, and base notes.

The top note is the initial scent we smell, it is also the first to disappear. The middle note is the body of the scent, while the base note is the aroma that stays the longest.

When mixing essential oil blends, make sure you have the three types of notes in your concoction. The ratio is usually three drops of top note, two drops of middle note, and one drop of base note.

Some examples of top notes are eucalyptus, lemon, and orange. This usually evaporates quickly – just within two hours. Middle note oils may include lavender, juniper, rosemary, and nutmeg. Some oils included in base notes are sandalwood, jasmine, rose, and clove.

Before you start testing blends, organize your oils into their respective categories. Use a fresh cotton ball or a dropper for each so you don’t mix the scent and contaminate them.

Begin mixing your blend by taking three oils and either dropping them into a clean glass container or dipping a cotton ball and placing them in a glass container. You may actually stick to your own ratio. Just make sure you have enough so you can smell the mixture. Plus, this will save you from making a batch that does not appeal to you.

After mixing your personal blend in a small bottle, wait for five minutes and smell the air above the bottle. Assess the scent. Do you like what you smell? What kind of impression does it leave? After this, seal the bottle and store it in a dry and cool place. Smell the blend again after a few hours. You can make your final decision if this combination works for you after two days.

From this point on, you can try experimenting and finding your own blend. You can even mix the essential oil blend to any soap, lotion, and candle. If you are using the oil for perfume, use a base note like sunflower oil, olive oil, and grape seed oil.

Using aromatherapy diffusers

A great way of using your oils is by using aromatherapy diffusers. These devices use ultrasonic waves to release essential oils in their purest form. This may enhance the effects of aromatherapy and spread the scent to the entire room. It does not even involve any heating. You can find many aromatherapy diffusers in your local stores. You can also find them in online shops, with various designs and affordable prices.

Relaxing Essential Oils Used In Aromatherapy

March 21st, 2012
By Anthony N Marks
Explore the world of aromatherapy and find your innermost self. Check out the thousands of aromatherapy recipes and blends to find which ones suit you, your needs and work best for you.

You can use the power of aromatherapy in a number of different ways. You can massage the oils into your skin. People find inhaling the soothing aromas by either burning candles or using a diffuser helps to change their mood and relax.

If you like the thought of a massage, you will need to add the essential oils to a carrier or base oil. Each carrier oil has its own unique properties and tends to be used for different skin types and conditions. If you have sensitive skin, or are prone to acne, using a gentle oil such as Grapeseed oil is good for your condition. If you have a more challenging skin condition such as eczema, using Almond, Evening Primrose, Olive or Jojoba oils would be a better choice. If you have scars using Calendula oil is great, while Comfrey or Rosemary oils are good for stings, burns cuts and grazes.

For a full body massage you will need about 1-2 ounces of carrier oil. The recommended measure of essential oil is 1-2 drops per teaspoon of carrier oil; using any more than this or using it neat can burn your skin.

There are many recipes for you to discover, deciding what results you want to achieve and how you want to achieve them is the key to selecting the right recipe for you. Most recipes can be used either in the bath, in a diffuser or for a massage, whichever is your preference. If you stick to the general methods for mixing your oils, then you’ll be OK and you’ll achieve the results you’re aiming for.

For the bath:

Use 2 ounces carrier oil to 15-20 drops essential oils. Mix the oils together and store in an amber coloured bottle (to minimise the evaporation of the essential oils and to stop the oils degrading over time).

For a massage:

Use 1 ounce of carrier oil mixed with 8-10 drops essential oils. Mix well and store in an amber coloured bottle.

For use in a diffuser:

Follow the instructions for your diffuser, but remember to use a maximum of 20 drops of essential oils.

For use as an air freshener:

Mix together 30-40 drops of essential oils with 1.5 ounces of distilled water and 1.5 ounces of high-proof alcohol, for example vodka (using alcohol is optional and you could use just water, but you will find the aroma lasts longer with the alcohol).

You can change your mood by using different blends of oils. A basic uplifting blend uses 2 drops of Basil oil, 1 drop of Cyprus oil and 1 drop of Grapefruit oil. Once you’ve mixed these together thoroughly you can add the blend to your diffuser for a great uplifting aroma.

A good blend to help with insomnia uses 10 drops of Chamomile oil, 5 drops of Clary Sage oil, and 4 drops of Bergamot oil. Mix the oils together thoroughly and store in an amber coloured bottle. You can then put 1-2 drops of your blend onto a tissue and place this inside your pillow case before going to bed to help you enjoy an uninterrupted night’s sleep. You could also use the same blend in your diffuser an hour or so before going to bed, helping you to prepare for a good night’s sleep.

Aromatherapy offers a great, natural, organic way for many people to cope with the pressures and stresses of modern life, and for some, it can even help with romance. Why not give it a go, and see how aromatherapy can change your life?

The Different Types of Cedarwood Oil

March 9th, 2012

By

Expert Author Danny Pellegrino

Cedarwood oil is an essential oil that can be found in all sorts of products you may see around your house. It comes from wood and has many different forms. Below you will find information on the most common forms, named by region that they originate from.

Atlas– also known as Cedrus atlantica, is used to help with acne, arthritis, bronchitis, coughing, dandruff, and stress. The warming and toning properties are very strong and many consider it an aphrodisiac because of the strength of the oil. Typically it’s thin with an aroma similar to that of mothballs. It should be avoided during pregnancy.

Chinese- also known as Cupressus funebris, it is a light yellow liquid that is very thin. This form of Cedarwood is used for aches and pains in the muscles, getting rid of warts, skin afflications and it can also be found in cosmetics, perfume and soaps. It is non-toxic and not irritant.

Himalayan- also known as Cedrus deodora, it is colorless and very thin. This form is mostly used as an antiseptic, aphrodisiac and stimulant. This should be avoided during pregnancy.

Texas- also known as Juniperus ashei is colorless and also very thin. It is used for circulation problems, coughs, congestion, sinusitis, oily skin and greasy hair. It has a very strong sweet aroma that is very similar to that of the Virginian form.

Virginian- also known as Juniperus virginiana is primarily used to calm anxiety, stress and nervous tension. Many people use it as an expectorant and antiseptic. Many consumers will recognize this form in over the counter products that are used to fight acne.

All of these versions of Cedarwood can be very beneficial when mixed into bulk bases. Bases range from lotion to shampoo to everything in between. To get the benefits and small quantities of your favorite base. You can mix in an ounce of Cedarwood with a gallon of lotion to reap the benefits. You can also use the oil directly on your skin or hair, but be careful. These products should not be used when pregnant and can be very harmful to someone with sensitive skin. I recommend always starting with very small quantities. If you have any severe reactions to the oils, be sure to consult a doctor and see if there are any that you should steer clear of.

Eucalyptus Oil Benefits

March 9th, 2012

By

Expert Author Danny Pellegrino

Essential oils is a pretty broad range of materials. It can be pretty overwhelming when you are looking for the perfect oil to add to your lotion base or simply looking for something to use as-is on your body. In a new series of articles, I’ll discuss the benefits of different essential oils.

Eucalyptus oil (Eucalyptus globules) is extracted from wood and leaves and the raw oil can be used for many different things. Originating from China, it is typically a clear to pale yellow liquid. The very strong aroma is often used in relaxation rooms– whether it be in a massage or a spa to help relax. Much like lavender or peppermint oil, it has an extremely strong scent. If you open a bottle in a small room, the woody aroma will fill it up in minutes.

So what can the oil do for you? If you mix it with a lotion base, it can be applied to the skin for various skin disorders. Typically used for rashes, burns, blisters, insect bites, and any other skin infections. It can even be applied in small doses directly when not mixed with lotion. Many people even add a drop or two to their bath water to achieve results without applying directly to the infected area. This is great for small children who have a sensitivity. Just remember, only a couple drops are needed as it is a strong oil.

Aside from skin disorders, it can also help treat common ailments associated with the colds and the flu. Oftentimes people experience soreness and aches when they are ill, the eucalyptus oil will assist with the relief of sore muscles. It can be applied in the same ways– either directly on the skin or added to bathwater. I recommend adding 1/2 ounce of eucalyptus oil to your favorite gallon lotion base and mixing. This will give your lotion a fantastic scent and you will achieve the same results.

Eucalyptus oil should be avoided when pregnant as its strong aroma and properties can be overwhelming to the heightened pregnancy senses. It should also be avoided if you have high blood pressure or epilepsy. It is considered toxic if you ingest it directly through your mouth.

When searching for any essential oils, I recommend finding a wholesale supplier online. You will get a much cheaper product and you will be able to purchase 100% pure oils, instead of diluted product.

Bulk Apothecary is a full service provider and industry leader of eucalyptus oil, unscented lotion base and other unscented bases along with plastic bottles, lip balm, other essential oils, and any other soap making supplies. We pride ourselves on offering the absolute best quality and best prices in the USA.

Top Ten Uses of Rose Geranium Essential Oil

March 9th, 2012

By

Expert Author Penny Swann

Scientific name: Pelargonium Graveolens Roseum. There are over 700 different varieties of Geranium. The Roseum on the end of the scientific name means the Geranium we are talking about here is a Rose Geranium. It actually smells kind of like a rose. It is oftentimes used to dilute a rose essential oil. The oil is steam distilled from the leaves, stalk, and flowers of the rose geranium plant. The Dutch sailors carried the plant with them and it quickly flourished practically wherever it went. This is a very adaptable plant, the Europeans grew to love it for its fragrance and its adaptability-it would flourish in almost any climate. Folklore dictated that the plant would keep away evil spirits, that’s why you see it planted near doorways and windows. Geranium oil is said to suture both the mental and the physical, meaning it will help wounds that are emotional or physical close and heal.

1. The primary constituent is geraniol, which builds collagen fibers (the protein that is the main building block of bone, cartilage, tendon, and other connective tissues) in the tissues. This means that it creates a regenerative action in these parts of the body, especially the skin. When you apply Geranium essential oil to a wound it will help stop the bleeding and give the skin what it needs to repair itself. Apply the oil to a cut, use a butterfly bandage to pull the edges together, and it is almost as good as stitches in a day or two. Please note that it is not a magic wand, if you are bleeding heavily, have cut an artery or something else that requires immediate surgical attention, please visit the emergency room, but using Geranium along the way will help minimize damage and soothe your emotions.

2. Excellent for skin. Any kind of skin challenge, eczema, acne, rashes, wounds, bruises, ulcers, herpes, and more. It even helps the skin appear more radiant and youthful! Apply a drop directly to an area of concern, dilute in a carrier oil for larger areas, or simply add 5-6 drops to a two ounce spray bottle filled with water, shake well before each application, and use as a body spray or (making sure the eyes are closed) to spray on the face.

3. A diuretic, it helps reduce water retention and edema (swollen ankles and legs). Apply to the legs or use 3-4 drops in a teaspoon of carrier oil and rub from the feet up to the knees. Always rub towards the heart, never away.

4. Improves immune function by balancing the hormones, the emotions, opening the circulatory system, and assisting the lymphatic system. Additionally, it helps reduce stress and stress reduces the immune system.

5. Balances hormones by opening up the circulatory system and allowing the hormones to be carried to where they need to be.

6. Great for female problems-PMS, swollen breasts, cramps, heavy or missing periods, etc. It even helps normalize the fluctuating hormones experienced during menopause! Apply to the ankles, the inner thighs, the soft upper arms, or even the breasts. If you are experiencing menstrual cramps apply on location. If you are experiencing heavy menstrual bleeding, apply to the abdominal area. You may initially experience a brief time of heavier flow, but then it should diminish to a more normal level of bleeding.

7. Marvelous for the emotions. Inhaling Geranium will ease anxiety, reduce tension, and serve as an antidepressant. It helps you release negative and depressing thoughts. In fact, if you are feeling suicidal or working with someone who feels suicidal, have them smell the oil and put a drop on their sternum, it can eliminate those suicidal feelings!

8. A great smelling insect repellant. Note it can attract bees; if you are allergic to bee stings use a different essential oil as an insect repellant just to be on the safe side.

9. Marvelous for use after surgery, especial plastic surgery, because it not only disinfects the area, but helps the skin and tissues underneath heal without scarring. It is also a great anti-inflammatory.

10. Great for hemorrhoids. Simply apply to the affected area several times a day and the swelling will go down and the pain will disappear.

*Only use essential oils internally that are truly 100% pure, such as Be Young oils. Oils that are cut or synthetic can have dangerous side effects if used internally. Always error on the side of caution and use common sense.

Jitterbug Perfume

February 29th, 2012

By

Expert Author Allison Stillman

“Subatomic particles apparently de- and rematerialize fairly routinely…some of them actually can be in two places at once. Their freedom from the normal confines of the space time continuum is thought to be the result of a weird electricity, an intelligent, creative, playful, and unpredictable interaction among oppositely charged entities in motion.”

“When interrogated about how they can walk through flames without being burned, ‘primitives’ have conveyed to anthropologists that they raise the vibratory level of their flesh to equal that of the fire. In like manner, then, an adept might raise-or lower- his or her vibratory rate to match that of another dimension, thereby disappearing from our customary universe and popping up in the other: dematerialization.”

Tom Robbins

It began for me in 1984, when the book Jitterbug Perfume was first released. I remember falling in love with Tom Robbins writing, and soon devoured most of his books. Honestly, I had forgotten the story for many years, but late last summer, a very dear friend, my twin, with whom I have practiced lucid dreaming and time travel, (which is quite another story) called me up and said, “Have you read Jitterbug Perfume lately?”

I said “No, I haven’t read it for years and years.”

He replied, “Get the book and read it, it is our story.”

So I purchased the book, packed it in my suitcase and set off for Santa Fe to study with one of the world’s leading distillers of essential oils.

The first day of the workshop, the distiller said, “If you never read another book about essential oils, the only book you have to read is Jitterbug Perfume.”

You might be thinking, as I did, this is a sign, for sitting in my backpack was the book, longing for my attention.

I never did get the chance to read it on that trip, but came home and was immediately absorbed by the book. The more I read, the more I was moved, commanded, impulsed and compelled to begin a quest to make this aromatic elixir.

I marched into Farmer and the Cook, our local farm to table restaurant and organic food store, where I sought out the farmer, Steve Sprinkel, synchronistically finding him in his office.

“Steve,” I said, “I need beet pollen.” (Beet pollen being one of the main ingredients in Jitterbug Perfume).

Steve laughed and looked up, “Jitterbug Perfume!”

“Yes,” I replied, “how did you know??”

“I remember the book…” he said “I have just planted beets and you can have a couple of rows. They must vernalize in order to set flowers, so by next year, you will have pollen.”

So I went out to the farm and began to commune with my beets, anxiously awaiting the coming Winter and subsequent Spring and the coming of beet flowers. I spent many afternoons watching those beets grow, and finally in mid March, the first flowers set. I went out one day and the aroma of beet flowers was wafting through the warm Spring day.

Now for those of you who have not experienced the smell of beet flowers, it is not a particularly lovely smell, but rather a musky, goaty, smell that on occasion gave off the odor of old dirty socks. Lovely you say, no, not lovely, but very earthy, primal.

The beet flowers instructed me in how to harvest, I was never in charge, they were the teacher all along. I spent the next 5 months visiting the farm twice weekly, spending hours harvesting beet pollen and flowers to make the fabled Jitterbug Perfume.

If you have not read the book, you might consider picking up a copy, it is a marvelous read, and in it you will learn that it is a book about immortality and time travel, with Jitterbug Perfume being the main ingredient for both of those adventures.

I was driven to make this perfume and contacted Tom Robbins, after sleuthing out his address, and told him, that as eccentric as I might be, I believed with all of my heart, that Jitterbug Perfume was true, it was real, and that I was endeavoring to make the perfume, as I was, and am now even more so, convinced it was a tool for time travel, an elixir of immortality, and would love to be able to call the resultant perfume, Jitterbug.

Much to my delight and surprise he wrote me back saying that even though the events in the book didn’t actually happen it was indeed a true story and that I had his full permission to use the name Jitterbug Perfume if I was successful in my endeavor. Well, successful I was and then some!!

And so, under the dark of a New Moon in August, the first bottle was done. I shipped the first bottle to Mr. Robbins, and he was delighted and thrilled with it, telling me that I have indeed made he and his book proud!!

Jitterbug has given me very specific instructions in how it is to be used, and I have obeyed its every request. The experiences people are having continue to make me shake my head in absolute wonder and amazement.

It is definitely amrita for the olfactory system and an elixir of immortality. I will be reporting more as time goes along, but one thing Jitterbug has told me that it is not to be offered commercially, and it is my duty to prepare people to experience the perfume. Jitterbug seems to have a power and presence and knows exactly what each person needs and takes them where they need to go! I have been amazed at the power of this magical elixir!

I am the humble servant of Jitterbug Perfume and feel honored to be so!

How To Flip Websites, Make Clickbank Cash, and Make Serious Dollars With Google Adsense

February 18th, 2012

Need a little extra cash in these tough economic
times? If so, then you may have just found a gold
mine, because this article will show you ways to
make money from your home, and with virtually no
expense to you!

Make Money Flipping Websites

banner

Ever heard of flipping houses? Flipping websites
is basically the same process, only WAY cheaper
and faster!

Here’s how to get started:

1. Buy An Existing Web Property- Sites like
Flippa.com, forums.digitalpoint.com,
Sitepoint.com, and many other online website
auctioneers have plenty of them.

2. Fix Er Up- Do a little research on the
website’s niche, and then figure the best way to
make the site better. It varies based on site, but
sometimes just fixing up the theme or adding
pictures (royalty free images at iStockphoto.com
for cheap) can drastically help.

Another thing you could do is add an interactive
forum. You can create one using web forum software
like Vbulletin.com. Or you could build a
subscriber list by adding an email optin form,
which you can create with free services like
Mailchimp.com. The more subscribers or active
members in the forum, the more you’ll be able to
sell your site for later!

3. Flip It- Now go back to an auction site and
sell the site for more than you bought it for.
Expect to buy basic, but decent looking sites for
$20-$50, and sell them for $100-$300!

How to Make Clickbank Cash

Clickbank.com is basically the number 1 place for
ebooks and digital download products. For
potential buyers Clickbank is a great way to find
good, usable information on pretty much any topic
you can imagine–from dating advice, to health
advice, and a ton more.

For affiliates like yourself, Clickbank is a
great way to make cash. Here is how it all works:

1. Sign Up and Do Some Product Research – To
start, you will need an account. That’s easy to
get, just sign up at Clickbank.com. Then you
should start researching a “niche”. Focus on
something specific. For example, instead of just
“golf” try finding a product on “stopping golf
slices”.

2. More Research, Get Links – Once you’ve done
some initial market research and found a few,
specific products, narrow it down to your top 1 or
2. Review the sales page, and check out the
Gravity of the product (Gravity basically
indicates what is selling right now). Usually, the
higher the Gravity, the better the chance you have
to make a sale.

Try out the product yourself if you can, and
always ask for review copies. Talk to the vendor
himself. If the vendor isn’t professional and
responsive, then that may indicate its not a very
good product to promote.

You want to make sure people who buy from them
(through you) are satisfied. After you know your
winner, get the affiliate link by following
Clickbank’s easy to use instructions located in
the “Clickbank Marketplace”.

3. Promote!- Finally, you just need to promote
your new affiliate product. One of the best ways
is writing articles about your niche topic, and
then posting your affiliate link in the resource
box.

But if you want more exposure, create an email
list, and promote it to the list of interested,
targeted subscribers. You can also join forums in
the niche, and have a signature link to your
website. Don’t be spammy and constantly try to
sell in forums. Rather, just be yourself and try
to be as helpful as possible.

Make Serious Dollars with Google Adsense

Not interested in selling? Don’t worry, there are
ways to make money without selling a thing. One is
Google Adsense. Ever see those ads on the side of
Google or in the side panel of a website? That’s
Adsense.

Basically, you just have to direct visitors to
your site, who in turn click on those ads
displayed within its pages, and you get money!
Here’s the skinny on Adsense:

1. Set up a niche website with Adsense – Choose a
niche, get a domain, then sign up at Adsense.com.
Get a free blog from WordPress.org.

2. Be Informative- Fill the blog with interesting
content by writing articles, posting youtube and
other videos, interview experts in your niche. The
more interesting your articles and videos, the
better.

3. Promote- Get traffic back to your site with
social bookmarking, social media, ping
directories, article and RSS feeds, etc. The more
you promote, the more traffic you get, which means
more money, how sweet is that?!

4. Get Paid- Finally, add Adsense to your blog!
You can really do this at any time, its not hard
and there are even plugins if you use WordPress to
manage the ads. Make sure you place your ads in
highly visible positions on your site. The higher
your click-through-rate (CTR) the more you stand
to make!

Extra: As mentioned above, you can even sell your
site if it starts making you money with Adsense.

So now you have an idea of what you can do to
make money online. Feel like you’ve got a good
chance? I hope so, because creating wealth online
is very straightforward, just choose one of the
methods above and get to work!
